Are your teens Pharming?
Drug deals may happen in the home as well as on the street. Abuse of prescription medications is very common. The source for many of these medications is the medicine cabinet of family, friends and other acquaintances. Prescription medications can produce a “real high” as well as kill you. Often teens and young adults take medications they think are safe or will give them a high but do not really know what they are taking. Common drugs found in the home with a high abuse potential include prescription medications for pain, sleep, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders.
“Pharming parties” have been reported in NJ. A group of teenagers congregate and share whatever pills they have been able to “pharm” from their homes or other homes. Over-the-counter (OTC) medications also pose a real risk. Cough, cold and allergies medications are frequently abused.
